What is the Political Courage Test?

Presidential Election 2012 Political Courage Test

Pro-life Do you generally support pro-choice or pro-life legislation?
I am against abortion for several reasons. Religiously, I believe that abortion is killing another human being and is therefore wrong. Legally, I don't see how abortion became law since America doesn't have different laws based on gender of the offender except abortion. Abortion allows the definition to be changed depending on who is doing the terminating. I also oppose abortion for the pychological damage it causes some women. Finally, I oppose abortion for philosophical reasons. What if Einstein had been aborted? Or Lincoln? No way to know what impact the aborted babies' lives would have made on the world!

We can reduce spending in Medicaid, Medicare and the Defense areas by getting fraud, waste, and abuse eliminated. Due to limited space here I cannot give all the details, but these details can be seen on my website or under the Issues section under my name on the 2012 Presidential Candiates website. I want to increase the defense spending after getting rid of the waste and obtaining money from the sources indicated under the Issues section. My People's Plan really will work to save America and get our country back on track, without raises the debt ceiling or taxes.
Welfare will be greatly reduced as we really help the poor to obtain middle-class status through education by helping with daycare and the cost of a two year vocational school of the recipient's choice. Welfare would be paid for a maximum of three years for physically able-bodied people as outlined in the People's Plan. Defense would decrease by a lot when the waste is eliminated, but then we need to expand our military and our missile defense. I find it odd that we are decreasing both at a time when other leaders are aiming missiles at us and obtaining "nukes".
I would like to decrease the amount of taxes paid all across the board. The only way to actually accomplish this is to have more people paying into the tax system and eliminate some of what the tax pays for. Cigarettes, alcohol, and fuel already have too much tax attached to these items. Fuel taxes benefit only the government. The more fuel costs, the more everything we buy costs, from food to building materials. I would like to get our taxes down to 12% with 2% used only for paying down the debt as outlined in the People's Plan.
Yes Do you support the regulation of indirect campaign contributions from corporations and unions?
I believe we have gotten away from what the campaigning is all about. I think each candidate should tell people their plan for America if elected and show their voting history if already in politics and their ability to put the plan in action, then let the people vote. Each candidate raises so much money that is just squandered in ads and smear campaigns. I would like to see all that campaign money used to pay down the debt and repay the money stolen from American citizens out of the social security fund. Each candidate should be on the ballot.
No Do you support capital punishment for certain crimes?
I don't believe that killing a person sufficiently punishes an individual, especially if they have taken someone else's life. The family that has lost their loved one grieves and misses them for a long time. Killing the murderer just ends their life. I believe that is too easy on the murderer. Prisons have become "soft". Years ago, prison was a place no one wanted to go to once, let alone again and again. These days, we have many multiple repeat offenders. I think if prisoners had to work 8-10 hours a day to feed themselves, they might not go back.
No Do you support federal spending as a means of promoting economic growth?
Yes Do you support providing tax incentives to businesses for the purpose of job creation?
No Do you support spending on infrastructure projects for the purpose of job creation?
No Do you support the 2010 temporary extension of unemployment benefits?
Yes Do you support the 2010 temporary extension of tax relief?
Based on what I have seen so far, federal spending to promote economic growth hasn't worked and the infrastructure projects seem to tear up perfectly good roads for nothing. I'd rather see bridges repaired and jobs being done that are actually needed. Plus, include a training program to get more people working on those projects, decrease the reach of the FDA and the EPA so businesses can expand and hire people again. Additionally, stop giving money to schools based on test scores. We need to educate our children not just prep for tests. See the People's Plan for more details.
Yes Do you support requiring states to implement education reforms in order to be eligible for competitive federal grants?
Yes, but I think the grants need to be given based on criteria other than test scores. I'd like to see the federal grants go away entirely. If the federal government didn't demand so much in taxes, then the states would have enough in tax money themselves to support the school system. There is so much waste in the Pell Grant system that we could send many more students to college if that alone was eliminated. Currently, some people get the Pell Grant and then never attend class! I'd like to see checks in place to prevent that.
Yes Do you believe that human activity is contributing to climate change?
No Do you support the federal regulation of greenhouse gas emissions?
Yes Do you support reducing restrictions on offshore energy production?
I think human activity contributes to climate change, but I don't support federal regulations. I would like to see each state regulate themselves. No one wants to breathe in pollution. Again, if the federal government didn't take so much in taxes, the states could start their own incentives for businesses and individuals to reduce. I support a reward system. Better to give a large monetary prize for the best ideas to reduce the greenhouse gas emissions than to impose fines when the goal can't be reached. This would get many people thinking of ways to decrease the emissions.
Yes Do you support United States' combat operations in Afghanistan?
Yes Do you support a timetable for withdrawal from Afghanistan?
Yes Do you support targeting suspected terrorists outside of official theaters of conflict?
The faster we instruct the Afghanistan military and police to handle their own conflicts, the faster our troops can return home to stay. I support sending more troops there for that purpose. I would also like to set a deadline, so the Afghanistan people know we are not there to occupy and as an incentive to learn as much as they can as quickly as they can. I think we should go after terrorists wherever they are just as they have said they will kill Americans wherever we are. Terrorists should not be given asylum by any country.
Yes Do you support restrictions on the purchase and possession of guns?
Yes, but only in three instances. I support not allowing convicted felons to buy firearms especially if they used one in the crime they were convicted of and also, I support a wait time of 48 hours as a sort of "cool-off" period of time. This might prevent anger inspired purchases and allow rational thought to return. I believe children should be 18 years old or in the military before purchasing a gun. Other than these three instances, I believe people should be allowed to purchase firearms without interference by the government.
Yes Do you support repealing the 2010 Affordable Care Act?
No Should individuals be required to purchase health insurance, as mandated in the 2010 Affordable Care Act?
No American citizen should be forced to purchase health insurance nor be forced to purchase one that has things in it that they don't want such as the part that says if a person is diagnosed with cancer at 76 years of age or older, they will not be covered. How does that person get treatments? Our government seems to be about death more than life. I would like to see that turned around. If health insurance companies expanded their preventive maintenance practise to include alternative medicine they would see a drastic reduction in claims which would allow lower premiums.
Yes Do you support requiring illegal immigrants to return to their country of origin before they are eligible for citizenship?
No Do you support allowing illegal immigrants, who were brought to the United States as minors, to pursue citizenship without returning to their country of origin?
Yes Do you support the enforcement of federal immigration law by state and local police?
If illegal immigrants can become citizens just by staying illegally, that means we give blanket amnesty to every illegal immigrant including sleeper cell terrorists. Children that grew up here, should return to their country of origin with their parents; otherwise, we are saying our laws really don't matter. I support closing the border and then allowing people in on work visas. Once the visas have expired, those people must go back to their country of origin and re-apply. Some of the 9-11 terrorists were here on expired visas. This too is a real problem. Also, I would eliminate visa waivers.
No Do you support same-sex marriage?
I don't support same-sex marriage because I believe marriage is for pro-creating and same-sex does not allow that to happen; however, I don't believe that we should tell same-sex couples that they cannot leave their social security benefits to their partner or that their partner cannot be covered by their insurance. I believe that social security is money paid in by an individual, therefore it should be left to whomever the person wants to leave it to. Also, I would like to see insurance companies offer insurance coverage to whomever the person paying the premiums wants to cover.
Yes Do you support allowing individuals to divert a portion of their Social Security taxes into personal retirement accounts?
I would like to see Robert Pozen's plan implemented. I think that would've saved social security back in the Bush Administration, but even though President Bush supported the plan offered by a Democrat, they could not get Congress to pass it. His plan used progressive indexing, which set benefits to grow fastest for the poorest Americans and slowest for the wealthiest with a sliding scale for everyone in between. It would have given us an opportunity to earn higher returns through personal retirement accounts. I would like to see this implemented and run by one of the brokerage houses.
My top priorities would be to create jobs, balance the budget, and pay down our debt. Creating jobs would be accomplished by drilling for oil here in the states, offering lower taxes to get big businesses to operate here again and small business owners to expand. Further, I would open more nuclear power plants and cut fraud, waste and abuse in the Medicare, Medicaid, and the Military. I would cut political extravagance and get prisons to become 90% self-sufficient. I would eliminate redundant programs and work with both parties to come up with solutions that will solve our problems.
